Public Safety Commission


On August 4, 1988 the City Council founded the Community-Policing Advisory Commission. This Commission was subseqently renamed "the Public Safety Advisory Commission, through approval of Resolution 2010-077 approved on  November 18, 2004. The Commission is composed of seven members appointed by the Mayor, with the approval of City Council.  The Commissioners shall serve terms of three years, except for the student member who shall be appointed for a one-year term.  All persons appointed to the Public Safety Commission hold office during the pleasure of the City Council.


The Commission increases awareness of, and attention to, public safety needs of the community by improving community between the community, City Council, and the public Safety agencies concerning, services, needs, and programs.  As and Advisory body, the Commission is not authorized to set policy or give direction to staff assigned to the City's Public Safety agencies
.

The Public Safety Commission is charged with reviewing and analyzing issues, making recommendations to the City Council the areas of public safety including crime and fire prevention, fire protection, traffic safety, emergency preparedness, emergency medical services, homeland security, code enforcement as related to public safety, and other issues have an impact on public safety.

Schedule

The Public Safety Advisory Commission holds regular meetings every fourth Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in the City Council chambers.  All meetings are open to the public.  Send recommendations and comments to: Chairperson, Public Safety Commission, 1 Main Street, Rio Vista, CA 94571.

Meeting time: Fourth Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m.

Any member of the Public Safety Advisory Commission who misses three consecutive regular meetings, without the consent of the City Council, shall be deemed to have resigned and the City Council shall be free to appoint a successor to fill the vacancy so created.  The appointment shall be for the unexpired portion of the term.
